Join organizations from across Massachusetts for a virtual listening session to share how student debt affects our members, share our campaigns for publicly funded goods, and explore how we can collaborate and support one another going forward.

Indebtedness is an increasing burden to families and our economy. 40 million people carry student loan debt, and U.S. household debt hit a record $18.2 trillion in 2025. Today, more than half of a typical worker’s raise goes to debt payments. In the fall of 2026, 9 million people are being kicked off the SAVE plan and seeing their monthly student loan payments skyrocket. For current, former, and future student debtors, the gutting of the Department of Education harms our financial security, our bargaining power, and our right to a good education.

At Debt Collective, we work to resist this financial harm and build towards debt-cancellation and reparative public goods. For the last decade, we've organized around student debt and the crisis in our nation's higher education system, winning billions in debt relief and providing pathways for student debtors to win debt cancellation and build their collective power.

The state of Massachusetts is home to some of the most progressive policies on higher education and debt, and congressional leaders who have historically fought for debt cancellation – but we still have a long way to go to win college for all. Join us on Nov 19 to discuss what debt cancellation means for your members, and we can strengthen our work across the state.
